Cooperative learning, wherein students are learning with and from one another, has been shown to support learning, but it takes planning to create an interactive learning environment. In this workshop, we will talk about how to begin building that learning community, how to facilitate activities, create more engaging discussions, and use questions more strategically during class. You will also learn strategies for more effective group work as well as how to navigate classroom conflict.

By the end of the workshop, you should be able to:

- Describe methods for building community among and with learners
- Explain strategies for facilitating active learning in class
- Identify approaches for effective classroom discussions
- Use best practices around asking and answer questions
- Identify strategies that support student learning in groups
- Apply conflict resolution skills to navigate classroom conflict

Workshops in the Ten for Teaching series focus on essential classroom teaching skills. These workshops are aligned with the outcomes of the CTL’s Evidence-Based Teaching Certificate and support instructors in building the skills they need in order to earn the certificate.
