Sept. 6: A New Spin on Digital Distraction: Redirecting Students’ Use of Digital Devices During Class

Boise State logo

10:30 a.m. Riverfront Hall, room 301. Even in the most interesting classes, students find it easy to get distracted by their smartphones and tablets–much to the frustration of faculty. This workshop suggests ways faculty can limit digital distraction, in part by redirecting students’ use of their devices into active learning in support of course outcomes.

In this workshop, we will examine digital distraction, concepts associated with digital health, and introduce you to a toolkit of strategies for increasing student engagement while managing student distraction. The workshop will include a step-by-step walk through of five foundational strategies for addressing digital distraction and additional handout resources for faculty and students. Facilitated by Lana Grover.
