Oct. 19: Intersecting Imaginaries Lecture Series – Mariah Devereux Herbeck

Erth's Dinosaur Zoo Live

4:15 p.m. ILC, room 201. Dr. Mariah Devereux Herbeck, Dept. of World Languages at Boise State University, will be the speaker for the lecture “From All-Seeing to Absent: The French Female Concierge’s Journey from Page to Screen”.

Dr. Devereux Herbeck explores the role of the female concierge in French culture and society, and her disappearances in the novels and film adaptations of Simenon. The concierge is both powerful-she sees all the comings and going of a given apartment building-and maligned since she is stereotyped as an uneducated source of petty gossip. What happens to her in Simenon? Come find out! Refreshments will be served.
