Jan. 12: Computational Science and Engineering Seminar

Graphic of Boise State "B" logo.

1:30 p.m. CCP, room 352. Sergey Voronin, Norbert Weiner Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics at Tuft University, will be the speaker for the seminar “Topics in big matrices, regularization, and inverse problems”.

We discuss several applications including an inverse problem in Geotomography, sparse signals and support identification, image and video restoration, compression and data fitting. We highlight the main mathematical problems underlying these applications and then present some more recent research directions into non-smooth minimization, low rank matrix approximations, and randomized algorithms. We go on to show some results from applying these methods to the mentioned applicants.
