Many are familiar with desktop 3D printing, with the emergence of new and more accessible
systems allowing the everyday individual to create with greater ease than ever before. The
industrial side of 3D printing, referred to as Additive Manufacturing, has the potential to
transform entire industries. Applications include rocket nozzles, drone components, spinal
implants, orthotics and prosthetics, and consumer products like running shoes. These AM
applications can allow customization to user-specifics, consolidation & lightweighting of
components, and creation of new metamaterials.

The next generation of engineers will leverage additive manufacturing like never before,
creating high-value applications that surpass the limits of traditional processes. In this talk, we
will showcase the other side of 3D printing—the high-value applications that exist today—and
explore what is possible through the next generation who are willing to innovate through design
for additive manufacturing (DFAM) skillsets.
