A Little Afternoon Music with the Zemlinsky Quartet
Friday, Nov. 7 • 3:30–4:30 p.m.
Morrison Center Recital Hall
Join the Zemlinsky Quartet for a mini-performance of excerpts and discussion about about Czech music and the passionate Czech–Slavic–inspired works of Leoš Janáček, featuring excerpts from his string quartet Intimate Letters. This informal, hour-long event pairs selected ensemble performances with discussion — perfect for listeners who want a deeper look at the music and its cultural context.
About the ensemble:
Formed in 1994 and still performing with the same members, the Zemlinsky Quartet is named for Alexander Zemlinsky (1871–1942), the Austrian composer, conductor, and teacher whose long Prague residence tied him closely to Czech, German, and Jewish musical life. Since 2005 the quartet has sustained a special relationship with the Alexander Zemlinsky Foundation in Vienna.
Admission:
Free & open to the public. No tickets required — seating is first-come, first-served.
Presented by the Boise Chamber Music Society and the Boise State Department of Music.
